Soft wood will mark easily and be less durable over time.

																	Making pine countertops.

I am currently restoring an old railroad station that was originally built as the daytona beach east coast station sometime in the late 1800 s.
I was so tempted to make a countertop out of painted mdf by the way.
Ash hard maple cherry mahogany oak walnut and teak are all hardwoods.
Pine is a soft wood that is commonly used with furniture but you may want to choose yellow pine over white pine if you are opting to use a softer wood.

5 inches times 5 boards comes out to 25 inch depth for the countertop.
Two layers of 3 4 inch mdf glued together primed and sanded super smooth painted a bright and fun color and coated with a high gloss pourable bar top epoxy.
All boards are like this 2 x 4 s are actually 1 5 x 3 5 etc so when we cut them down by 1 4 inch on each side that equaled 1 2 inch per board which brought it down to 5 inches per board.
24 inch cabinets and a 1 inch overhang.

Oak is the most common material for making furniture.
Start with 1 6 pine boards.
Depending on your counter size you may need three 1x6s and a 1 8 i did just measure your original counters then do the math to see what size you need to put together.
